Ten baby animals from the African savanna make up the main part of this safari animals clipart. Each one comes twice: as a round-cheeked cartoon baby in warm color, and as a solid dark silhouette cut to the same outline. The other ten designs set the scene around them, with trees, a sunset, safari vehicles, binoculars and lettering.

Ten animals, two versions each

The babies are a lion cub sitting with a big rust-orange mane, a blue-gray elephant with peach ears and its trunk raised, a spotted giraffe, a striped zebra, a gray rhino with two small horns, a lavender-gray hippo, a cheetah cub with its tail curled up, a slim antelope with curved horns, a spotted hyena and a brown warthog with little tusks. All of them have big dark eyes and pink cheeks.

The silhouettes are numbered right before their color partner, 01 next to 02 and so on. Each is a single dark green-black shape with no inner detail, and it traces the same outline as the color baby on the same spot of the canvas. Use the silhouette when one dark color is all you want to print or cut, and the color version when you want faces and markings.

Trees, jeeps, binoculars and lettering

The seven extras are a single flat-topped acacia tree, a pair of acacias, a savanna scene with an acacia in front of an orange setting sun and dry grass, an olive green jeep from the side, a cream jeep seen from the front at an angle, a classic pair of green binoculars on a brown strap and a compact mustard-yellow pair. The three wordmarks are in dark script: “safari” on its own, “WILD” over “Safari” with a swash underneath, and “LITTLE” between two small leaves over “safari”. The letters are already shapes, so there’s no font to install.

Stacking the color pieces

The color babies are built from many separate pieces. The SVG groups them by fill color, 7 to 17 colors per animal, and the DXF puts each color on its own layer. The guide notes some designs run past 100 separate color regions, so it sees these as best for print-then-cut or for someone used to layered work.

That’s where the backer files come in. Each of the ten is the full outline of one color baby, made to sit underneath its pieces. Import the backer and the matching color SVG together, keep the 15-inch canvas the same while you do, and only then resize both at once; otherwise the layers won’t line up. The guide also asks you to leave any detached features where they sit.

For a first test, the guide suggests about 8 inches wide for the babies and 6 inches for the silhouettes. The PNGs are 4500 pixels square, which works out to 15 inches at the 300 dpi set in the files, and their transparent background lets the paper or fabric color show around the animal.

Questions

What are the backer files for?
Each one is the full outer shape of a color baby animal, on the same 15-inch canvas. Cut it as a base, then lay the color pieces on top so the small parts have something to sit on.
