This flamingo SVG set draws 30 tropical birds in a retro poster style. The body and neck are a warm coral, the feathers break into apricot, peach and cream, and each wing ends in a few sharp ochre and deep teal feathers. Beaks are tipped in near-black, and the only other color is the gold of a sun, a pineapple or a swim ring.

Thirty birds, from one-legged poses to swim rings

The first six are calm standing poses. Most rest on one leg, one preens with its head tucked into its back, one spreads a fan of wing feathers, and one leans forward with its neck curved low as if wading.

The next six are more playful: a young bird with a rosy cheek, one mid-stride, one settled on the ground with its neck curled in an S, one dancing on a single leg with its wings lifted, one asleep on the ground with its head tucked into its back feathers, and one with both wings held out to the sides.

Three portraits zoom in on the head and neck alone. The neck curls into a hook or an S, and the black-tipped beak is the darkest thing in each one.

Five tropical scenes add plants. A flamingo stands in front of a gold sun and a teal fan palm, another between two hibiscus blooms with dark leaves, another next to a pineapple striped in gold and pale apricot. Two flamingos face each other over a palm and a hibiscus, and in the last scene a bird bends down to a monstera leaf beside a half sun.

Then come four summer extras: angular sunglasses, round gold-rimmed sunglasses, a gold and cream striped swim ring and a coral one. The last six designs are silhouette poses only, black in the color folder as well: standing on one leg, preening, feeding with the head down, stretching the wings up, walking and resting on the ground.

Where the black versions lose detail

Every black version is solid black with no inner lines, so it helps to know what disappears.

  • The sunglasses mostly vanish. They sit inside the outline of the head, so the two sunglasses birds look almost like plain flamingos.
  • The swim rings merge into the body and leave a rounder bird, and the sun becomes a round bump behind the back.
  • The pineapple, palm, hibiscus and monstera keep their outlines, so the tropical scenes still read well in black.
  • The three portraits become thick hook and S shapes, with the beak simply part of the outline.

Lots of small feather pieces

The color art is built from many separate shapes. In the 24 color designs, each colored DXF has between 48 and 252 closed outlines, and the hibiscus scene has the most. The colored SVGs group those shapes into eight or nine solid colors, so you can select every ochre feather at once and change it. The guide warns that the multicolor feather areas include small pieces and should be enlarged or simplified before cutting, and it calls the black versions the simpler starting point for a one-color cut. The black DXFs hold just one to ten shapes per design. The guide also asks for a material test first, and says mirroring is only for transfer methods that call for it.

Starting sizes

All the DXF files open at 10 inches wide, which makes most birds taller than they are wide, from about 9.1 inches up to 19 inches for the tallest standing poses. The PNGs are trimmed close around the bird with 3600 pixels on the long side and 300 dpi recorded in the file, about 12 inches at that setting. The guide suggests 10 to 11 inches across for an adult shirt, 7 to 8 inches for a child’s shirt and 3 to 4 inches on a printed cup. The shirt, mug and tote in the photos are mockups. The download is the artwork files and the guide.
