This autumn word search book holds 40 puzzles, each named for a slice of the season: Pumpkin Patch, Fall Weather, Apple Orchard, Fall Road Trip, Harvest Market and Cozy Weekend among them. Three of the puzzles are about Thanksgiving, and one called Halloween Fall brings in ghosts, costumes and candy, so a single printout covers more than one fall holiday.
From ten words to eighteen
The first 12 puzzles use a 12 x 12 grid with a ten-word bank printed in two columns underneath. Words at this level run left to right or top to bottom, and no puzzle has more than two words on a down-right diagonal. The 16 Medium puzzles grow to 15 x 15 with twelve words. The 12 Hard ones reach 20 x 20 with fifteen words on most pages, sixteen on Big Fall Word Hunt and eighteen on Ultimate Fall Challenge. From Medium on, a word can run in any of the eight directions, backward included. The Hard banks lean on longer vocabulary such as EQUINOX, FOLIAGE, MIGRATION and BUTTERNUT.
Five fall games
The bonus section turns the book into a group activity. Fall Word Race hands everyone the same page and three minutes. Autumn Word Hunt and Ultimate Fall Challenge use grids with no word bank at all, hiding 12 and 20 targets, and only the host’s answer sheet says what they are. Fall Category Challenge asks players to sort 16 words into Nature, Food, Clothing and Activities. Thanksgiving Word Race turns the F15 Thanksgiving puzzle into a five-minute race. Points go on the Fall Game Score Sheet.
Printing
Plain 20 to 27 lb printer paper is enough, and the printing guide suggests grayscale mode if you want to save colored ink. Print at Actual Size so the grid letters keep their spacing, and leave the answer pages out of the stack when you run a race.
