Twelve dog breeds take up the first twelve numbers of this dog SVG bundle, each drawn from the head down to the chest in the same thin charcoal line work. The other 18 designs are simpler pieces to pair with them: dog silhouettes, paw prints, bones, five sayings with bold rounded letters and two paw-and-heart emblems.
Twelve breeds, one line style
The breeds are the Labrador retriever, golden retriever, pit bull terrier, dachshund, poodle, German shepherd, Siberian husky, Pembroke corgi, beagle, chihuahua, French bulldog and border collie. Each dog looks a little off to one side, and the drawing picks out what you’d know the breed by: the poodle’s tight curls, the husky’s face markings, the bulldog’s bat ears and wrinkled muzzle, the long ears of the beagle and dachshund, the chihuahua’s oversized ears. They share one line weight and one color, so two or three breeds placed side by side still look like a set.
Inside each portrait the spaces are open. On the PNGs that means the fur area is transparent, not white, so the paper or fabric color shows through the drawing.
Silhouettes, paws and five sayings
The five silhouettes are solid shapes with no inner lines: a retriever, a dachshund, a corgi and a poodle in a show clip, all standing, plus a German shepherd sitting. Two dachshunds show up in the set this way, one as a portrait and one as a silhouette.
The paw prints are a solid paw, an outline paw, a paw with a small heart in the pad and a pair of little paw steps. One bone is solid and one is an outline with a tiny heart in the middle. The two emblems put a paw print inside a heart outline and a paw with a heart cutout inside a circle.
The sayings each read in capital letters around a picture:
- “DOG MOM” and “DOG DAD”, each around a smiling retriever face with its tongue out
- “PAWS LOVE & COFFEE”, with a mug wearing a paw print and heart-shaped steam
- “MY DOG MY WORLD”, with a corgi face set in a solid heart
- “HOMEBODY DOG DAD”, with a retriever looking out of a little house outline
What the Color folder changes
Both folders hold all 30 designs in every format, but the difference between them is small. The portraits, sayings and emblems are the same charcoal art in each. In the Color folder, the silhouettes, the solid paws, the paw steps and the solid bone turn sage green, clay or tan, and the outlined bone gains a clay heart. The outline paw stays charcoal in both. If you’re after one-ink prints, either folder works for most of the set.
Cutting the portraits
The portraits are the hardest pieces to cut. Eyes and many of the small interior lines are separate pieces, and the guide asks you to keep them where they sit in the file. It suggests trying a portrait at about 8 inches wide and starting the silhouettes at about 4 inches. Those are starting points, not tested minimums, so test your material first. The sayings also contain small separate pieces, and thin tapered tips may need simplifying; for small projects the guide points to print-then-cut instead.
The SVG and EPS files sit on a 12 x 12 inch canvas, and the DXF files are in inches, so set the final size after you import.
Questions
- Are the breed portraits in color in the Color folder?
- No. The 12 portraits, the five sayings and the two paw-and-heart emblems are the same charcoal art in both folders. The Color folder only recolors the silhouettes, paw prints and bones.
- Do I need a font for the sayings?
- No. The letters in all five sayings are already converted to outlines, so the files open the same on any computer.
