Palm trees, big monstera leaves and a smoking volcano run across the top of every card in this set, over a colorful “DINO bingo” in bubble letters. The page is white inside a green frame with a wavy line and a border of little orange and green dots. The dinosaurs are drawn in earthy storybook colors, ochre, teal, rust and dusty pink, with freckled backs and friendly faces.
Which dinosaurs
The 25 animals are T-Rex, Triceratops, Stegosaurus, Brachiosaurus, Diplodocus, Ankylosaurus, Parasaurolophus, Velociraptor, Spinosaurus, Styracosaurus, Corythosaurus, Carnotaurus, Therizinosaurus, Compsognathus, Amargasaurus, Baryonyx, Saltasaurus, Nodosaurus, Ouranosaurus, Heterodontosaurus, Troodon and Plateosaurus, plus Pteranodon in the air and Plesiosaurus and Mosasaurus in the water. Nodosaurus, Ouranosaurus, Heterodontosaurus, Troodon and Plateosaurus are the less common picks, a fair test for a child who already knows the famous names.
A fast game
Each card shows 24 of the 25 animals, so only one is missing from any board. Almost every call covers a square for almost everyone, and the race comes down to where the pictures sit in the grid. So rounds tend to be short, and several fit into one party. No two cards have the same arrangement, though some share the same 24 animals in a different order.
The labeled cards print the name under each dinosaur, so early readers get to sound out Parasaurolophus and Heterodontosaurus while they play. The picture-only cards drop the names, and the calling cards carry the name and the picture either way.
