Space Bingo takes the cartoon side of space. A cat and a dog wear bubble helmets, the alien is green with octopus tentacles, a robot and a ray gun get squares of their own, and there is even a space ice pop. The real things are drawn just as playfully: a rocket, a space shuttle, a satellite, a lunar lander, a Mars rover, a telescope, an astronaut and a flag planted on the Moon.
The 25 pictures
Up in the sky are the Sun, the Moon, Earth, Mars, Saturn, a star, a shooting star, a meteor and a galaxy. On the ground there is a moon base. Add the UFO and the characters above and you have the full list of 25. There are no constellations or star types here, and only three planets besides the Sun and Moon, so the list stays with things a young child can already name or learn in one round.
Cards and play
Each page has a navy-and-white striped border with colored flags along the top, a “SPACE BINGO” title flanked by rockets, a planet and a little alien, and a purple grid with a lilac free square. The bottom line reads “The Greatest Game in the Galaxy!”
A card shows 24 of the 25 pictures, so every board is missing just one, and nearly every call covers a square for everyone. No two cards are arranged alike, in either set or between them, though some share the same 24 pictures in a different order. Picture-only cards suit kids who aren’t reading yet. The labeled cards put words like “satellite” and “galaxy” under each picture for early readers.
