Kawaii Ocean Babies is a coloring book of baby sea animals drawn in the kawaii style: round bodies, huge shiny eyes, blush on the cheeks and tiny smiles. Each page puts its title, like “Seal Baby” or “Crab’s Sandcastle,” in a banner at the top, so kids who are starting to read can find their favorite page by name.
From single animals to little stories
The first ten pages are one animal each, big and centered, with one small extra: a seal with a hair bow, a narwhal with a bell on its horn, a sea slug with bunny ears, a polar bear cub in a scarf, a sea turtle in a sailor hat and a dolphin with a beach ball, plus a sea otter, a manta ray, a hermit crab and a lantern fish.
The middle pages give the animals something to do or hold. There’s a clownfish in its anemone, an octopus with a bubble tea, a crab building a sandcastle, a starfish in round glasses, a jellyfish under a sleepy moon, a seahorse with a backpack, a whale with a rainbow spout, a friendly baby shark, an oyster holding a star-marked pearl and a snail with a front door in its shell.
The last eight are busier scenes with several animals: a concert, a birthday party with a cake, a class at school, a bakery, hide and seek, a post office, a sports day and a goodnight page.
The two pages at the end
After the coloring pages comes “My Ocean Baby’s Name Is,” with a line to write a name and a big frame with a faint otter outline to draw in. The last page is a chart of ten sea babies (otter, seal, narwhal, turtle, dolphin, clownfish, octopus, crab, starfish and jellyfish), each with an empty circle to color in a favorite color.
Printing
The cover marks the book for ages 3 to 8. Lines are thick and there’s no gray shading, so crayons work as well as markers. Print single-sided at actual size, not fit to page. Plain copy paper is fine, and 90–120 gsm paper holds up better under markers.
