Animal Tangram Puzzle Cards
Sixty animals, from a cat and a goose to a seahorse and a hummingbird, each drawn with the seven tangram pieces on three full-page cards. A card-size tangram template is included, so the cut pieces lay straight on top of every animal.

This set of animal tangram puzzles gives each of 60 animals three full-page cards. The animal is built from the classic seven pieces (two large triangles, a medium triangle, two small triangles, a square and a parallelogram), and every card uses all seven.
Three cards per animal
The Level 1 card prints each piece in its own color, with a thin white gap between pieces, so a child can match colors and see exactly where each one goes. Level 2 shows the same animal as one solid dark shape, and working out the pieces is the whole puzzle. Level 3 is the answer key: the silhouette again, with white lines marking all seven pieces. Hand out Level 1 first, keep Level 3 for checking, and a single animal becomes three rounds of play.
The 60 animals
| Group | Animals |
|---|---|
| Farm and pets | cat, dog, rabbit, horse, cow, pig, sheep, goat, chicken, rooster, duck, goose, turkey, donkey, mouse |
| Wild | fox, bear, deer, wolf, dragon, tiger, elephant, giraffe, camel, kangaroo, monkey, squirrel, hippo, rhino, zebra |
| Sea and water | fish, shark, whale, dolphin, seal, crab, turtle, seahorse, clownfish, penguin, lobster, goldfish, jellyfish, frog, starfish |
| Birds and bugs | swan, crane, swallow, eagle, parrot, ostrich, flamingo, sparrow, hummingbird, butterfly, bee, snail, crow, dragonfly, bat |
The name of each animal is printed in capitals under the picture. The files keep the four groups in this order, so you can print one group at a time.
Which tangram to cut
Both templates are in the main PDFs, right after the how-to-play page. The large one is a 150 mm square, good for small hands and for building animals freehand. The card-size one is a 75 mm square, the same scale as the animals on the cards, so a child can set each piece directly onto the Level 1 or Level 2 picture. Every card page carries a 100 mm bar. Print at 100% and measure it, because “Fit to Page” shrinks the cards and the pieces stop lining up. Card stock holds up to repeated cutting and handling.
The ink-saver file is set up on A4. Its first 60 pages are the challenge cards drawn as outlines instead of solid shapes, one animal per page. The four-per-page sheets that follow draw the animals smaller than the card-size pieces, so use them as pictures to copy rather than a base to build on.
