Kids check off 24 things from the ocean and the shore on this hunt, each one a pastel drawing with its name below.
What’s on the list
Ten are things you could really come across on a beach day: a seashell, a crab, a starfish, seaweed, a seagull, a pelican, a sailboat, a lighthouse, a sandcastle and a beach ball. The other fourteen are sea life: a fish, a goldfish, a jellyfish, an octopus, a seahorse, coral, a sea turtle, a dolphin, a seal, a lobster, a pufferfish, a shark, a whale and a narwhal.
Pages
After a how-to-play page come three versions of the checklist. The first is a large grid of pictures with a box to check on each. The second is a two-column list. The third fits everything into three short columns and adds four bonus finds: something that floats, something with a shell, three different fish and something that washed ashore. At the bottom, kids fill in “I found ___ out of 24 items!”
The fifth page is a score hunt, where common finds like a seashell or a crab are worth 1 point and rare ones like a dolphin or a sea turtle are worth 5. The last page is an I Did It! certificate with lines for a name and the date. The instructions list ages 3 and up and 2 to 6 players.
Color or black and white
In color, the pictures are soft pinks, blues and greens. The black-and-white file has the same pictures as clean outlines that use far less ink, and kids can color them in. Laminate a checklist to reuse it on the next trip.
