On most coloring pages a hot air balloon is a plain oval. In this set the envelope is the main event. Each balloon carries its own pattern for you to fill, with the ropes and wicker basket hanging below it.
Patterns on the balloons
The Easy pages are named after their patterns: Sunrise Stripes, Cheerful Chevrons, Diamond Daydream, Scalloped Sky, and a Cloud and Star Balloon. Balloon Friends puts a big balloon next to a smaller one, and the last two Easy pages bring the balloon down to the ground: Ready to Rise and a close look at the basket. Later pages mix in checks, flowers and a big star.
What you see below
Normal pages 09–16 float over named places: an old town with a clock tower, rooftops along a river, a castle on a hill, a lighthouse harbor at sunset, a city park with a fountain and gazebo, a willow-lined lake, a desert oasis with cactus, and a meadow landing by a windmill. The Hard pages 17–24 add more layers to the land: a cottage garden with a greenhouse, an alpine morning with a chalet and a rocky stream, sunflower fields, an autumn valley full of leaves, snowy hills with a sled, a tethered balloon at a festival, a launch field with two balloons getting ready and a final lake view.
Sky and land to fill
Because the balloon sits high on the page, the top half is mostly sky and clouds, with plenty of room to try sunset colors or a gradient. The detail sits in the lower half, so a child can color the balloon and stop, and an older colorist can keep going into the trees and rooftops. The colored references use bright rainbow balloons, but the pattern shapes work with any set of colors.
