One car stars on all 24 pages: a four-door sedan taxi with a sign on the roof and a band of checkers along the doors. It turns up from the side, the front three-quarter angle, the back and, on page 23, from above, so the same cab doesn’t look identical from page to page. In the colored guides it’s always yellow.
Pickup points
Most pages are about where the taxi has stopped. It waits outside a hotel with a suitcase on the curb, at a train station with a big wall clock, under a bakery awning full of bread and muffins, at a library with steps, at a taxi stand with a second cab behind it, and in front of an airport terminal with a plane taking off overhead. Other pages are about the drive: a palm-lined seaside road, a stone bridge over a river with willows, pumpkins along an autumn avenue, a sunset boulevard, puddles on a rainy street, and a snowy mountain town.
How busy each page gets
On pages 01–08 the cab is large and the background is a row of houses, a park railing or a garage door. Pages 09–16 add market stalls, airport glass and falling rain. Pages 17–24 surround the car with cobblestones, a station glass roof, cherry blossoms and a gazebo, a city skyline at night with a crescent moon, a lighthouse coast, and a hotel courtyard with a fountain.
Printing
In each 48-page book, the outline comes first and its colored guide follows. Print only the odd pages to skip the color. The pages are landscape; print single-sided at Actual Size on US Letter or A4.
