Dessert Town takes place in one small town where every building is a dessert. The first scene looks over the rooftops, with a cupcake house, a donut house and animal friends arriving with a cart. The last page is the same town asleep under a crescent moon.
Five parts of town
The information page at the back lists the book’s five chapters, and the pages follow them in order:
- The town. A cupcake cottage behind a picket fence, a street of donut-sign shops, a lollipop gate, a layer-cake fountain in the square and a frosted cottage in the sun.
- The shops. A cupcake bakery run by a bunny, a donut cafe with a cat and a dog at the tables, a candy shop, an ice cream stand shaped like a cone, a bread oven and a little factory with chimneys and pipes.
- The friends. Six characters up close: the bunny with a tray of cupcakes, a bear chef flipping pancakes, two cats at an afternoon tea, a fox with a tray of cookies, a puppy pushing an ice cream cart and a squirrel stirring a pot of candy.
- The fantasy. A candy garden of lollipops, a castle made of cake, a chocolate river with a boat, a donut Ferris wheel, a forest path and a sweet-trimmed archway with a wooden door.
- Daily life. Baking in the kitchen, tea under a tree, a market day, a strawberry field, a lantern and fireworks festival and the town at night.
What the pages look like
Each scene is a square drawing centered on the page, with clean black outlines and plenty of small details like awnings, jars and paving stones. The animals have round faces and simple features. Only the cover is in color.
The printing notes ask for 100% or Actual Size rather than Fit to Page, and 120 gsm paper or card if you’re using markers. Pencils, gel pens and fineliners all work on these lines.
