Groundhog Day Clipart: Cute Groundhogs, Shadows and Spring Sayings

Groundhog Day gets a whole cast in this groundhog clipart collection. The star is a chubby brown groundhog with a cream belly, pink cheeks, two buck teeth and a tuft of hair on top, drawn with a dark outline and filled with flat, soft color: each color file uses only 5 to 10 colors, mostly browns and cream with pastel blue, pink, green and yellow.

February 2, start to finish

Five designs tell the holiday story. The groundhog peers out of a burrow heaped with snow while snowflakes drift above, stands on a patch of grass beside its gray shadow with the sun overhead, holds up a flip calendar reading FEB 2, pops out of a hole under a big yellow sun, and finally waters a pot of pink flowers. An empty burrow with grass at its edges and a clump of snowdrops in a patch of snow come as separate pieces, so you can set a scene of your own.

Eight more designs are simple poses: peeking from a hole, standing with paws together, waving, walking, sitting, cheering with both arms up, wearing a blue pom-pom hat, and holding a blank green sign that leaves room for your own words.

Three that look more like the real animal

Designs 09 to 11 drop the big eyes and blush. One groundhog walks on all fours, one hunches over to nibble a clover, and one sits up tall on its back legs keeping watch. They keep the same browns, so they mix in with the cartoon ones.

Six sayings

“Happy Groundhog Day”, “Six More Weeks”, “Hello Spring”, “Hello Shadow”, “Winter or Spring” and “Wake Up Spring” are written in rounded letters, in alternating pastel blue, green, yellow and pink with a dark outline, above and below a groundhog. “Six More Weeks” and “Winter or Spring” use the hat-wearing groundhog, “Hello Shadow” brings back the shadow scene, and “Winter or Spring” adds a sun on one side and a snowflake on the other. The letters are outlines already, with no font to install.

Line drawings and solid shapes

The basket, reading, sleeping, umbrella, scarf and lantern groundhogs each have a matching black line drawing, open and transparent inside, that keeps details like the basket weave, the book pages and the lantern glass.

The solid files are outer silhouettes, and they lose more than you might guess. The FEB 2 calendar and the blank sign merge into the groundhog’s body, and the snowy burrow becomes one mound under three snowflake shapes. What stays separate are the letters in the sayings and small pieces like the sun with its rays, which the guide says need transfer tape. Its suggested starting widths are 4 to 8 inches for simple silhouettes, 6 to 8 inches for the characters and decorations, and 10 to 12 inches for the sayings and seasonal scenes, as a starting point for your own test cut rather than tested machine settings.
