Gingerbread Village is 15 Christmas bookmarks to color, each showing one building in a snowy village made of gingerbread. Roofs drip with icing, most doors carry a heart, and stepping-stone paths run up to nearly every front door. Every bookmark has the same scalloped border, a little like piped frosting around the edge of a cookie.

Line weight and color
The outlines here are heavy and the shapes wide, so whole walls and roofs can be filled in a few strokes, and the patience goes into the trim: rows of icing dots, swirls on the gables, the tiny hearts on the fence posts. Designs 1 to 3 add lacy flourishes in the corners of the frame; the rest keep the plain scallop.
The color inspiration file uses one wintry palette throughout. Skies are a soft blue (pink behind the bakery), walls are caramel gingerbread, icing is cream, and the accents are cranberry red, sage green and dusty pink on roofs, doors and berries. Treat it as a suggestion. The guide says it’s not a color-by-number system and that its painted texture can differ slightly from the outlines.
Before you print
Use the Letter or A4 file to match your paper; both hold the 15 designs in the same order. Print one side only at 100%, with Fit, Shrink and borderless enlargement switched off. Cut along the thin outer rectangle so the scalloped frame stays with the picture. Let the ink dry before you start coloring, and laminate, if at all, only once the bookmarks are colored and cut.
Questions
- How fine is the detail?
- The outlines are thick and most shapes are roomy, but the icing dots, window panes and fence hearts are small. The guide calls the detail intended for adults and suggests colored pencils or fine-tip pens.
- What paper should I use?
- Printer-compatible cardstock. Run one test sheet first and check that the scale line on page 2 measures exactly 1 inch, then try your pencils or pens on a spare print.
