Storybook Village is a whimsical set of square pictures in a watercolor style, full of small round cottages with pointed, patterned roofs and small arched doors that often glow yellow. The trees look like they were drawn with a pen full of spirals, and the clouds curl into little swirls. It sits somewhere between a picture book and a patterned quilt.
Seasons and times of day
The set is arranged loosely through the year. The first pictures are pastel spring: a walled rose garden, meadows of daisies and tulips, a cottage village on an island floating in clouds. Summer brings a sandy bay with a sailboat and seashells, windmills on green hills, and a whole valley of lavender. Then the colors warm into autumn, with a canyon crossed by a small bridge, mushroom-dotted woods and a village strung with glowing lanterns. The last third turns to evening and winter: misty ferns, dusky purple hills, moonlit forests with glowing specks among the trees, and a snowy village of dark blue houses.
Picking a group
Because the light changes so much across the set, it’s easy to hang a group with a mood. The pale spring and summer scenes hang well together in a bright room. The night forests, in deep teal and gold, look good together on a darker wall or in a reading corner.
File size
Twenty-four files are 4096 pixels square, about 13.6 inches (34.7 cm) per side at 300 pixels per inch. The floating island is larger, at 5120 pixels, which stretches to about 17 inches (43.3 cm) square. The pictures are square, so an 8 x 10 or 11 x 14 frame will need a crop, and the round clouds at the top are usually the first thing to go.
