This planner has the goal pages and trackers you would expect, plus a teaching section in the middle, so the plan has material to work through. The Chinese is simplified throughout, and every word and phrase comes with pinyin (tone marks included) and English.
The four parts
Planner (17 pages). Pick a target level and exam date, block out weekly study time, then choose a 4-week sprint or a 12-week plan in four three-week phases. After that come a 28-day checkbox grid, a progress tracker, a 100-day streak grid, twelve milestones, a resource list and a one-page summary to sign.
Vocabulary and characters (26 pages). Log sheets for new words, character breakdown sheets, and a spaced-review tracker with checkpoints on days 1, 2, 4, 7, 15, 30 and 60. The reference pages cover the eight basic strokes, eight stroke order rules, 60 radicals with example characters, topic word banks, HSK 1 and HSK 2 core words, confusable pairs, measure words, numbers, and dates, time and money.
Grammar and phrasebook (26 pages). Tones and pronunciation drills, sentence word order, 24 grammar patterns from 我喝茶 up to 把 and 被 sentences, question words and connectors. The phrasebook runs 160 lines across eight situations: greetings, introducing yourself, shopping, restaurants, directions and transport, school and work, health and emergencies, and time and dates. Each situation has two pages with blank rows for phrases you pick up yourself.
Journal (16 pages). Daily logs in a full and a compact version, weekly summaries and planning grids, monthly reviews, a difficulty log, an exam day checklist and a page for your results.
Which edition to print
The full-color edition uses dark page backgrounds and uses a lot of ink. The ink-saver edition has the same 88 pages on a light background and is the lighter choice for a home printer, especially for log sheets you print again every week. Paper of 100 to 120 gsm keeps fountain pen ink from bleeding through.
