Classic plain black shapes of the whole horse make up these 20 horse silhouettes, with almost nothing cut into them, so each one reads by its edge alone. Every design also has a matching horse outline.
Out in the field
The first eight show horses being horses. One gallops with its tail streaming (01), one trots (02), one stands square (03) and one rears up on its hind legs (04). In 05 the horse grazes, and in 06 it drinks from a low trough. Design 07 is a mare with her foal touching noses, and 08 is two horses walking, one a little ahead of the other. Design 17 is a horse lying down with its legs folded under, and 20 is a sturdy, cartoon-style pony with a big eye and a thick mane.
Riders and working horses
Four designs carry a rider. A rider in a helmet clears a post-and-rail jump (12), a dressage horse lifts a foreleg high (13), a barrel racer leans the horse hard around a barrel (14), and a western rider in a cowboy hat sits a relaxed walk (15). Design 16 puts a horse in harness pulling a two-wheeled cart.
Heads and keepsakes
Three designs are head portraits: a classic side profile (09), a profile with the mane blowing back (10) and a long face looking straight at you (11). Design 18 sets a head inside a horseshoe, and 19 is a carousel horse with a saddle, bridle and twisted pole.
Solid, outline and scale
The solid files are filled black with only a few tiny openings, like the line of a bridle or the edge of a saddle. The outline is a narrow closed band traced around that same edge, not a single-line drawing. Thin parts such as legs, mane tips, reins, harness and the carousel pole need enough size and the right material, and the outline lines can run together if you shrink them too far. No cutting result is promised, so try your scale and settings on a scrap first.
All four file types share the same shapes. On the 8 x 6.4 inch canvas the wider horses span about 7.5 inches, while the front-facing head is a narrow 2.6 inches. The PDFs come in eight files: US Letter or A4, solid or outline, with one horse to a page or the same horse four times. A full-page galloping horse prints about 6.8 inches wide on US Letter.
Questions
- Are the pairs and the riding scenes one piece?
- Not all of them. START-HERE.txt says several designs have separate pieces, including the two walking horses, the jump rails, the barrel and some portrait details. Keep proportions locked and resize the whole design together.
- Which PDF should I print first?
- START-HERE.txt suggests letter-outline-1-up.pdf on US Letter paper, or the matching A4 file. Print one test page at Actual Size (100%) before running the rest.
