Fox Silhouettes: 20 Red, Arctic and Fennec Foxes plus a Paper Fox Mask

Instant downloadSVG, DXF, PNG, PDF

Twenty foxes in black and white, from a red fox diving into snow and a big-eared fennec to a mother nuzzling her kit, a geometric fox and a fox among wildflowers. The solid versions keep the fur and faces as white strokes cut into the black, and there's a cut-out paper fox mask sized for a face.

Most of these 20 foxes are solid blackwork rather than flat shapes. Fur, eyes, whiskers and the inside of the ears are cut into the black as white strokes, so a red fox still looks thick-coated when it’s printed or cut in one color. Every design also has an outline version, and one of them is a paper mask you can cut out and hold up to a face.

Red, arctic and fennec

The first twelve are whole foxes and one portrait. A red fox sits with its tail curled around its paws (01), runs flat out (02), sleeps curled into a ball with its eyes closed (04), looks back over its shoulder mid-stride (09) and stands alert (10). Design 03 is a front-facing head, 05 a mother bending down to touch noses with her kit, and 11 a fox lying down with its tail wrapped around the front. Design 08 catches the snow pounce, a fox diving headfirst toward a small mound of snow. Design 12 walks in front of three pine trees.

Two other species get a design each. The arctic fox (06) has a deep winter coat and small rounded ears, and its solid version is mostly white with thin dark fur lines, the reverse of the red foxes. The fennec (07) sits upright under a pair of enormous ears.

Flowers, facets, tracks and a mask

Designs 13 to 20 move away from plain animal portraits. Design 13 sits among tall wildflowers, umbels, coneflowers and hanging bells, and it’s the busiest file in the set, with many small separate pieces. Design 14 builds a sitting fox from triangles, 15 is a single bushy tail in an S-curve, and 16 is two clawed paw prints. Design 18 is a friendly, round-cheeked face in bold shapes. Design 17 is the mask: a fox face with two eye openings, ears and cheek panels that you can cut out or leave as decoration.

Solid and outline side by side

In the outline files the same contours and fur strokes become narrow black ribbons with open space between them, which gives a lighter, sketch-like fox. The geometric fox shows the difference most clearly, a pattern of filled triangles in one file and an open web of edges in the other. The start-here notes add that small fur details, flower parts and separate pieces may need adjusting for your own material and equipment, so test your settings before a final project.

Sizes and the three folders

The SVG and DXF files open on a 10 x 10 inch canvas, with the largest designs reaching about 8.6 inches across. On US Letter the full-page PDFs print the running fox about 6.3 inches long, the four-up pages about 3.1 inches and the six-up pages about 2.6 inches. The mask is the exception: its full-page PDF holds it at 5.5 inches wide so the eye spacing comes out right, while its four- and six-up copies are small decorations. Each page is headed with the design number and name and a print at actual size reminder.

The download is sorted by format into three folders, one for the PDFs, one for the PNGs and one for the SVG and DXF files. Each has its own START-HERE.txt that opens with what that folder contains, alongside the mask notes and the design index.

Questions

Will the paper fox mask fit a face?
It's a template you adjust. The full-page PDF keeps design 17 at its intended size, 5.5 inches wide with the eye centers 2.2 inches apart. MASK-SIZING.txt suggests printing on plain paper first, holding it up to the wearer's face without attaching it and rescaling until both eyes see clearly. At 110% the eyes sit 2.42 inches apart, at 90% about 1.98 inches. The four- and six-per-page copies are too small to wear, and an adult should help with the cutting and fitting.
What are designs 19 and 20 for?
Design 19 is a leaping fox drawn as a dotted line, meant for tracing, and design 20 is a fox profile in fine lines. Both keep that line style in the solid and outline versions, so they look much lighter than the other eighteen.
