A cat peeking out of a cardboard box, one perched on a windowsill with its tail hanging down, a kitten batting a ball of yarn: the 20 cats in this set are drawn only by their edges. Each pose comes as a filled black silhouette and as a hollow outline of exactly the same shape.
The 20 poses
- Sitting: a classic side-on sit (01), a head tilted to one side (07), a raised front paw (08), a cat seen from behind (09), a paw lifted for grooming (14) and a fluffy upright sit (20).
- Resting: a cat tucked into a loaf (02), one curled asleep in a round ball (04) and one lying long with its head raised (18).
- On the move: a long front-legs-down stretch (03), a slow walk (11), a leap with all four legs off the ground (12), a crouch with the rump up ready to pounce (13) and a cat standing on its hind legs, reaching up with both paws (16).
- Play and character: a kitten pawing yarn (05), a roll on its back with the paws in the air (15) and a cat walking with its tail bent into a question mark (17).
- With a prop: the windowsill perch (06) and the cat peeking out of an open box (10). The sill and the box belong to the shape, so they come along in both versions.
- Portrait: a kitten’s head and chest seen from the front, with pointed ears and fluffy cheeks (19).
No faces, on purpose
The outline isn’t a line drawing of the cat. It traces the border of the silhouette as one even line with nothing inside, and Start-Here says the eyes and whiskers are left out on purpose. What you get is a clean cat-shaped edge to trace around or color in. Small details flatten along with everything else, so the ball of yarn in 05 is a plain circle with a short strand trailing off.
Printing and file sizes
The PDFs come in every mix of US Letter or A4, solid or outline, and full-page, 4-up or 6-up. Print them at 100% in portrait on paper that matches the file. Start-Here notes that these are print layouts, not set sizes for cutting.
The SVG, PNG and DXF files all share the 8 x 6 inch canvas. If you plan to cut the shapes, fine fur curves and narrow gaps may need a larger size, and the files carry no claim of a physical cut test, so run a small trial in your own material first.
Questions
- Do the 4-up and 6-up pages mix different cats?
- No. Each of those pages repeats one design four or six times, and the pages run in the same order as the full-page PDFs, so page 10 is always the cat in the box.
- How big is each cat on the canvas?
- The canvas is 8 x 6 inches and every cat sits inside it with space around the edges. The widest designs measure close to 7 inches across, and the upright ones stand a little over 4.5 inches tall, so keep the proportions locked when you resize.
