Eight printable games for a thirty-fifth birthday make up this set, most of them built around growing up in the nineties. The questions stick to everyday things rather than brand names: rewinding a rented video, blowing on a game cartridge, the noise a dial-up modem made.

The eight games

  1. Nineties Trivia. 25 questions, plus a tie-breaker on how many minutes fit on one side of a 90-minute cassette.
  2. Who Knows the Birthday Star Best? 20 questions about the guest of honor, from their first job to their go-to coffee order. Their real answers stay hidden until the reveal.
  3. Most Likely To… 20 titles, such as “most likely to reply to a work email at midnight,” voted on in secret and announced like an awards show.
  4. Nineties Price Check. Guess what 20 things cost in the US in 1995, from a gallon of milk to a median new house.
  5. Category Scramble. Four timed rounds (S, M, C and P) with five categories each. Only answers nobody else wrote score.
  6. Nineties Word Scramble. 20 jumbled words like MIXTAPE and SCRUNCHIE, good to leave on the table as guests arrive.
  7. Guess the Year. 15 events from 1990 to 1999, three points for the exact year and one for being a year off.
  8. Wishes for 35. A keepsake page each guest fills in, with prompts like “my prediction for your fortieth birthday,” tied together and handed over at the end.

Planning the night

The host guide lays the games out as a two-hour plan: the word scramble while people arrive, trivia to warm up, Who Knows the Birthday Star as the main event, Guess the Year during cake, and the Most Likely To awards near the end. If time is short, it suggests games 1, 2 and 3 for a one-hour version. The print checklist tells you how many copies of each sheet to make, and it also lists six inexpensive prize ideas.

Printing

Plain paper works for all the game sheets. Use card stock for the bonus decor file, the only one you cut: the certificates print two to a page, the banner pennants get two punched holes for string, and the thank-you cards fold four to a sheet. Print at 100%.

Questions

How many guests does it work for?
Up to 24 for most of them. The host guide marks trivia, the price check and Guess the Year for 3 to 24 players and Most Likely To for 4 to 24. Who Knows the Birthday Star Best? is marked 3 to 20 and Category Scramble 3 to 16. The word scramble can be played alone, and the keepsake page has no limit.
Is there prep before the party?
One step. The birthday star fills in the Who Knows the Birthday Star Best? answer page on their own about a week ahead. Everything else is print and play.
