Riddle Me This pairs 60 printable riddles with 60 separate answer cards. One person reads, holding the answers, while everyone else guesses. The riddles are the classic kind: “What has hands but cannot clap?” or “What has cities but no houses, forests but no trees, and water but no fish?”
Three levels in one deck
Riddles 1–20 are Easy, marked green with one star. They’re about everyday things, like an egg, a towel or a candle. Riddles 21–40 are Medium, with two stars, and bring in wordplay and lateral thinking. Riddles 41–60 are Hard, marked red with three stars, and include the ones that play with letters and words. Because the level is printed on every card, a mixed-age table can share a deck. Children take the Easy cards, and the red ones go to whoever thinks they’re clever.
Three ways to play
- Classic. Players take turns drawing and reading a card, and the first correct answer scores. If no one gets it in 30 seconds, the reader reveals the answer.
- Team Challenge. The drawing team gets 60 seconds to answer together for 2 points. Miss it and the other team can steal for 1.
- Speed Round. The reader runs through as many cards as possible in 60 seconds, and anyone can shout.
The host tips cover four settings: kids (Easy cards, no timer), family night (play to fifteen points), classrooms (one riddle on the board as a morning warm-up, or blank cards for students to write their own), and meetings, where one Medium card opens the conversation and no one has to answer anything personal. One rule is worth keeping: an unsolved card goes back in the deck, so it can come around again.
Printing
Cards print four to a page on US Letter or A4. Card stock is best, and plain paper also works. Print at 100%, run the riddles and answers on separate sheets, and cut along the printed guides. Each riddle’s number matches its answer card, so a shuffled pile is easy to sort again.
Questions
- How old do players need to be?
- The guide says about six and up. The Easy cards are everyday things a six-year-old can picture, and the host tips suggest dealing only Easy cards to kids aged 6 to 10.
- Can the riddle and answer be printed on the same card?
- The guide says to print riddles and answers on separate sheets. That's how the reader holds the answers. The card backs are optional and go on the reverse.
