One Minute Challenge Party Games is a deck of 60 printable challenge cards, each one a task to finish in 60 seconds. A player draws a card, reads it aloud, gathers the few things it lists, and the room counts down the last ten seconds.

Six groups of ten

  • Face Tricks. Nudge cotton balls across a plate with your nose, balance a pen on your nose, or catch tossed marshmallows.
  • Steady Hands. Coin towers built one-handed, marbles moved with chopsticks, and macaroni threaded onto a single strand of dry spaghetti.
  • Cup Chaos. Build a four-row cup pyramid and take it back down, flip cups upright off the table edge, or blow a cup along the table and back.
  • Air and Balloons. Keep two balloons up at once, pop them by sitting on them, or float a ping pong ball on the air from a deflating balloon.
  • Move It. Shake ping pong balls out of a tissue box tied at your waist, walk with a book on your head, or pull on a sock while standing on one leg.
  • Team Play. Pass a hula hoop down a line of held hands, build a marshmallow-and-spaghetti tower, or run a coat relay.

Each card shows a difficulty of one to five stars, a “You need” line, the rules and a score line. Most cards are worth one point and two if you beat the harder target. Team cards score for everyone on the winning team.

Two ways to keep score

Play solo with up to eight names on the score sheet, or split into teams of three or four and use the team sheet. A few house rules in the pack keep everyone in the game: everybody plays every round, a failed challenge goes back into the deck, and for players under eight, targets can move closer and a near miss counts as a hit. If a card needs something you don’t have, put it back and draw another.

Printing and cutting

The cards come six to a page, and US Letter and A4 print them at the same size, so pages from both mix into one deck. Card stock of 250 gsm or heavier shuffles best, though plain paper works. Print one card page first to check the size, then cut along the dashed lines. With the six blank cards the deck comes to 66, which fits in a sandwich bag or an old card box.

Questions

What supplies do I need?
Mostly kitchen and closet things. The shopping list puts about 40 paper cups, a bag of 30 balloons, 10 ping pong balls, straws, marshmallows and small candies, dried beans and dry spaghetti, coins, dice and marbles at the top. A hula hoop, two decks of cards and three rolls of toilet paper are nice to have.
How many people can play?
The rules call six players the sweet spot and say twenty still works. For solo scoring, two to eight is best. Past that, split into teams of three or four.
