In Fruity Little Adventures, 40 of the 48 pages belong to a single fruit, and its name is printed in capitals at the top: Apple Orchard Harvest, Gooseberry Garden Harvest, Lychee Leaf Platter, Star Fruit Happy Day. The fruit is drawn big in the middle, usually on a plate, in a basket or on a checked picnic cloth, with garden flowers and a fence behind it. These are real-looking fruits without faces, and on most pages one is cut open, so there are apple seeds, orange segments, a halved papaya and a cubed mango to color as well as the outside.
Forty-eight fruits, eight to a chapter
- Orchard Days: apple, pear, peach, plum, apricot, cherry, persimmon, pomegranate.
- Berry Baskets: strawberry, blueberry, raspberry, blackberry, cranberry, gooseberry, mulberry, currant.
- Citrus Garden: orange, lemon at a lemonade stand, tangerine, lime, grapefruit, kumquats in a little wagon, blood orange, citron.
- Tropical Days: banana on the beach, pineapple, mango, papaya, coconut, guava, lychee, passion fruit.
- Fresh Finds: watermelon, cantaloupe, honeydew, grapes, kiwi, fig, dragon fruit, star fruit.
- Fruit Harvest: pages that mix several fruits, among them a market basket, a train carrying fruit, a rainbow fruit bowl, fruit skewers, glasses of juice, a garland and a pattern page with twelve fruits.
Ages and line weight
The printing guide says the set was designed for ages 3 to 7 and that younger children may need a hand with the smaller details. The fruits themselves have thick, rounded outlines and large shapes. The backgrounds are where the small work is: daisies, grass, leaves, fence posts and an occasional butterfly or bee.
Two books, not one
The coloring pages and the colored versions are separate files here. The line-art book holds all 48 outlines, and the color reference book has the same 48 designs finished in bright colors, in the same order, so page 27 in one matches page 27 in the other. Print the line art in black and white, and print color pages only if you want them on the table for ideas, since color printing uses more ink. Both books come in US Letter and A4. Print at 100% scale, and put a spare sheet under the page when using markers.
