Written for the days that don’t go to plan, this 28-page calm parenting toolkit has something to fill in on every page, and most of it is aimed at the parent: what you want to be like before the hard moment arrives, what your own warning signs are, and what you’ll say instead of the thing you usually say.

What the pages cover

  • Before the hard day. Your parenting intentions, including what you won’t pass on from your own childhood.
  • In the moment. The iceberg page (what you saw, and underneath it hungry, tired, frightened, overwhelmed, wanting you close or out of control), a four-step routine for tantrums (pause, breathe, name your feeling, choose), and a page on what your child needs: safety, being heard, a choice, room to settle.
  • Everyday friction. A morning and evening routine chart, a six-slice choice wheel, four ways to say no that aren’t a flat no, handling transitions, bedtime in six steps, mealtimes, a screen time agreement you both sign, and five steps for settling a fight between two children.
  • Words. Praise versus encouragement with phrases to rewrite, a feelings bank split into good, hard and mixed-up feelings, and a page of encouragement phrases to stick on the fridge.
  • For you. A self-care check with eight checkboxes and a 1–10 “how full is my cup” scale, an emergency calm card, and a letter to your child for the hardest days.
  • Tracking. A two-page weekly behavior log, a weekly goal, monthly look-back pages and a milestones page.

How the printing guide suggests using it

Read pages 2–13 on a calm day, not mid-meltdown. Fill in one line of the weekly log each evening, and the guide says the pattern shows up by Sunday. Set one goal on page 23 each Monday and do pages 24–25 once a month. The calm card on page 26 and the bonus fridge cards go on the fridge for the worst five minutes.

Sizes and binding

The US Letter and A4 files suit a home printer. The 6 x 9 in file is for a small booklet or a print-on-demand service. The guide recommends double-sided printing flipped on the long edge.

Questions

Does it print well in black and white?
Yes. The printing guide says grayscale prints fine. It also suggests cream or ivory paper and 120–150 gsm (32–40 lb) so ink doesn't show through.
Can I put it in a binder?
Yes. The inside margin is 0.9 in, so three-hole punching keeps the holes clear of your writing. Stapling the corner or spiral binding at a copy shop also works.
