You print this anatomy coloring book yourself from a PDF, and it holds 30 studies of the human body. Each study takes two pages in a row: first the black-and-white line art, then the same drawing in color, so the 60 pages run line, color, line, color. The drawings are finely shaded and look more like textbook illustrations than cartoons.
The 30 studies
| Designs | What’s drawn |
|---|---|
| 01 | Body cavities, a side cutaway from the head to the hips |
| 02–17 | The skeleton and its joints: the full skeleton, the elbow, the skull from the front and from the side, the vertebral column, a single vertebra, the rib cage, the shoulder girdle, the arm, the pelvis, the leg, the hand, the foot, the inside of a long bone, the hip’s ball-and-socket joint and the inside of the knee |
| 18–20 | Muscles from the front, muscles from the back, and a cut bundle of skeletal muscle |
| 21–24 | The brain from the side, a split view inside the brain, a cross-section of the spinal cord, and a nerve cell |
| 25–30 | Inside the eye, inside the ear, layers of the skin, the lungs and airways, inside a kidney, and the urinary system |
Words on each page
Every page carries the study’s title and an “identification word list” of four terms, such as Cornea, Lens, Retina and Optic nerve on the eye. The list sits in a column on the left, away from the drawing, so finding each part is up to you. Three pages are flat schematics instead of shaded drawings, and they come with their own markings: the vertebral column is tagged C1 through L5 plus the sacrum and coccyx, the rib cage numbers ribs 1 to 12 with a short key, and the foot numbers seven tarsal bones and names them underneath.
Color pages and scale
The color references use bone tans, muscle reds and a few contrasting blocks, like the side view of the skull split into green, orange, purple and blue sections or the wrist bones in pastels. Those colors are only there to tell one structure from the next. Sizes don’t compare from page to page either, so a skull and a single vertebra fill about the same space.
Printing
Odd pages are line art and even pages are color. Print only the odd pages if you want just the coloring sheets, or print the pairs together to keep a reference beside each one. Pages are landscape, one per sheet at Actual Size, with the drawing in a tall frame on the right and the word list on the left. The A4 book holds the same 30 studies in the same order.
Questions
- Is this one of the big anatomy coloring books with hundreds of plates?
- No. It's a 60-page printable PDF holding 30 studies, each shown once as line art and once in color. There are no quizzes and no answer pages.
- Are the four terms beside each drawing labels?
- No. They're a list of parts to look for, printed in a column with no lines into the drawing, and each page notes that the terms are not position labels. The vertebral column, rib cage and foot schematics are the exception, with numbers or letter codes printed on the drawing itself.
- Are the drawings to scale, and are the colors real?
- Neither. The start-here file says the images are not to scale and that the colors only separate one structure from another. Treat every page as a simplified study drawing.
