Sixty activities on 71 pages make up this printable busy book for preschoolers, meant to be laminated and kept in a binder. The cover marks it for ages 3 to 5. Most activity pages work the same way. The top shows gray circles to match against, and the bottom holds the pieces to cut along the dashed lines. A dot of hook-and-loop tape on each circle and each piece lets a child press them on and pull them off.
The four parts
- Basics. Colors, shapes, number match and number order to 10, big-medium-small, long and short, up-down-left-right, shadow match, find the other half and finish the pattern.
- Letters and words. Uppercase and lowercase A to Z, capital-to-small matching, letter tracing, beginning sounds, three-letter words to build, rhymes, opposites, feelings, body parts, family and people who help us.
- Numbers and thinking. Counting to 20, tracing numbers, ten frames, adding to 5 and taking away from 5, o’clock times, heavy and light, first to fifth and a four-square shape sudoku. The coins page uses the penny, nickel, dime and quarter.
- My world. Weather, seasons, days and months, the eight planets, the five senses, fruit or vegetable, what to wear, setting the table, a shopping list, safe or not safe, and road signs. Two pages walk through tying a shoe and doing up buttons and zippers, step by step.
Eight activities have no pieces to cut: the tracing pages, My Name, same or different, odd one out, the symmetry page, shoelaces and buttons.
Building it
The guide suggests printing on 120 gsm card or heavier, single-sided, at actual size so the pieces still line up with the printed circles. Laminating is optional but it is what keeps the pages going. Two sheets of spare pieces cover the letters, numbers and small shapes that tend to disappear first, and the guide recommends a small zip bag clipped in for each page’s pieces.
Four editions
Pastel Dream, Earthy Montessori and Rainbow Bright differ only in color. The black and white edition saves ink and leaves the shapes for the child to color.
