These are 3.5 x 5 inch pattern cards built around one question: what comes next? There are 64 puzzles in four color-coded groups of 16. Color and shape patterns use dots, circles, triangles, stars and hearts. Number patterns start with repeats like 1, 2, 1, 2 and move on to counting by 2s, 5s and 10s, counting down and doubling. The life events group is the sequencing part, 16 everyday routines like getting dressed, planting a flower, baking a cake and bedtime, told in four or five steps.
Three cards for every puzzle
Each puzzle is printed three times. The one-star card shows the row with a blank at the end and three choices to circle. The two-star card hides one mistake in the row for kids to find and check, and on the life events cards the steps are shuffled and need numbering. The three-star card gives the answers to both, names the pattern type (ABAB, AABB, ABCABC, a growing rule or a sequence) and states the rule in one sentence you can read aloud. It also writes the pattern as a small repeat instruction, the way you’d tell a computer to do something over and over.
The cover gives ages 3–8. English leads on every card, with simplified Chinese labels in smaller type and no pinyin.
Pages to use with the cards
Four worksheets let kids color their own patterns, draw the next two shapes, find missing numbers and cut apart six routines to put back in order. Pattern Path is a board game for 2 to 4 players: roll, move, and name what comes next on your square. A tracker has a box for every card, and a certificate waits at the end.
Printing
Print in color at 100% and cut on the dotted lines. Pages 4–6 repeat the first color puzzle at full-page size for showing to a group. Laminated Challenge cards can be marked with a dry-erase pen and wiped clean.
Questions
- Is this about pattern blocks?
- No. These are repeating patterns like red, blue, red, blue, and number patterns like 2, 4, 6, 8, not pattern block design cards.
- Do the cards use a lot of ink?
- Yes. Every page has a dark navy background with bright colors. The read-me file suggests your printer's draft or economy mode for a lighter print.
