Left Right Baby Shower Stories
Five different read-aloud stories for the left right gift-passing game, so a shower can play several rounds without repeating one. Each story hides WRIGHTs and RIGHTs that trip up the room, and a blank page lets you write a sixth about the guest of honor.

This is the left right game for a baby shower, with five stories to choose from instead of one. Guests sit in a circle with a wrapped prize, someone reads a story out loud, and the prize moves one seat left every time they hear LEFT and one seat right for every RIGHT or WRIGHT. Whoever holds it on the last line keeps it.
The five stories
Each story fills one page, runs about 500 words and has around 50 cues.
- The WRIGHT Family Runs Late. Baby Wright is due on a Tuesday, Dad sets off in one shoe and one slipper, and the drive to the hospital goes in a full circle.
- The Gift That Would Not Stay Put. Mrs. Right is headed to a shower, but she leaves the gift on the passenger seat, and she ends up at the diner on the corner.
- The Stork’s Treasure Map. A map with no sender leads the mom-to-be past a very unhelpful rabbit to a chest with a baby blanket inside.
- The Smiths Have Everything Under Control. A half-painted nursery and a crib that gets taken apart and rebuilt before it fits, with four screws left over.
- The Great Diaper Run. The party runs out of diapers, the host races to two stores, and a stranger at the checkout pays for them.
Playing several rounds
The variations page suggests a different prize for each story, so five rounds give you five winners. You can also split a big group into two circles racing through the same story, pass the reading to a new guest each round, or save one story for after the cake. For a shower over video call, guests pass an imaginary parcel and tap their screen.
The host tips are practical: pull the circle in so everyone can reach both neighbors without standing, and keep the prize small and light because it will travel a long way. The group-size notes say 10 to 20 guests is the sweet spot. The write-your-own page asks for about 50 cues, roughly two minutes of reading, and a couple more RIGHTs than LEFTs so the prize doesn’t end up back where it started.
Printing
Print the first page for yourself and the story pages for whoever reads. Plain paper is fine, and only the prize tags need cutting. In the black-and-white version, LEFT has a solid underline and RIGHT a dotted one, so the cues are still easy to spot.
