This set holds 40 ghost pumpkin stencils, running from a classic floating sheet ghost to crowded Halloween scenes that need a cutting plan. All 40 pages are solid black on white. You carve out the black. The white, including narrow white channels that cut through the black, stays in the pumpkin wall as support.

From friendly to haunted

The Easy ghosts (01 to 10) are simple floating shapes: a happy ghost, a BOO ghost, a little sheet ghost, a peeking ghost and a ghost face that is just eyes and a mouth. Cute ghosts (11 to 20) carry something, such as a pumpkin bucket, a broom, a little bat, a black cat or candy corn, and one peeks out of a jack-o’-lantern. Spooky (21 to 30) turns the expressions around with screaming, scared and grinning ghosts, and adds a haunted house, a graveyard, bats, a moon and a spider web. Advanced (31 to 40) fills the page: a ghost carnival, a ghost witch on a broom, a ghost mansion, a parade of ghosts, a pumpkin patch and an “Ultimate Ghost” to finish.

Two pages per ghost

The stencil book shows each ghost filled in. The outline book repeats it as a thin line drawing with the same number, made for pressing a pin or tracing tool along the lines. You mark both sides of every cut area, and you leave any gap in an outline open, because that gap is what keeps a section attached.

Before you start

The safety advice comes from the included guide and stencil book. They say an adult should handle all sharp tools, with children picking designs and taping on the paper. Carve on a stable surface with your hand out of the blade’s path, light the finished pumpkin with a battery LED candle, and never leave a lit pumpkin alone.

The guide also walks through picking a firm pumpkin with a broad, smooth face, and having an adult open it and scoop it out. Cut the eyes and mouth first and the large outer areas last, then check the pumpkin each day once it is on display. Its last page is a carving plan with blanks for the ghost number, print scale and cut order.

Print each design at 100% on US Letter or A4, and check that the 1-inch line on the page measures 1 inch before you transfer it.

Questions

Are the ghosts scary?
The first 20 are friendly, with smiles, a bow, a witch hat, candy and a black cat. Spooky and Advanced bring screaming and grinning ghosts, graveyards, bats and haunted houses.
What size pumpkin do I need?
The stencil book gives rough widths of 6 to 8 inches for small pumpkins, where it suggests GHOST 06 or GHOST 10, 8 to 10 inches for most Easy and Cute designs, and 10 to 14 inches for the scenes.
