These vintage fuse bead patterns look like the contents of a grandmother’s jewelry box: a rose cameo in a gold oval frame, a pocket watch with roses at its edge, a pink perfume bottle with a bow at the neck, a lace fan, a jeweled crown, a pearl in a scallop shell and an ornate gold key. Most of them share one palette of rose pink, blush, antique gold, ivory and soft lilac, with a deep teal for leaves.

Printed at bead size

This is the main difference from a reading chart: the placement pages print at true size, so you can line the sheet up with your pegboard and check your work against it square by square. Choose the edition that matches your beads. In the 5 mm files a square is 0.197 inch; in the 2.6 mm files it is 0.102 inch. Apart from the butterfly, every grid stays within 37 cells across and 36 down, which works out to about 7.3 by 7.1 inches with standard 5 mm beads such as Perler, or about 3.8 by 3.7 inches with mini beads. Doodlora Studio isn’t affiliated with Perler, and no bead company had a hand in these charts.

To keep the size right, print at Actual Size or 100% with any fit-to-page option turned off, then measure the 2-inch calibration line on page 2 before you start. Each motif also has a detail reference page showing the whole chart with its legend, which is not meant for scale.

Reading the codes

Every motif has its own key. A letter is a local code, so A might be Plum Brown in one chart and Dusty Rose in the next. The shade names are generic descriptions rather than any manufacturer’s color numbers, so pick the closest beads you own. The setup page also warns that thin stems, points and loops need care, which matters most on the snowflake arms and the shaft of the key. Leave the ironing to an adult.

Questions

Which designs need more than one pegboard?
Garden Butterfly is the big one at 59 by 45 cells, about 11.6 by 8.9 inches on 5 mm beads, and the 5 mm editions split its placement chart into four tiles that join edge to edge. The other 19 stay within 37 by 36 cells.
What is the difference between Color and Symbols?
Both show the same letters in the same squares. Color fills each square with its shade; Symbols prints the letters on a white grid and leaves the color key swatches as empty boxes, which saves ink.
