City Rescue Dispatch Activity Pack
A dispatch team in made-up Maple City reads incoming calls, picks a vehicle, plans the route and packs supplies, and a child does each job on paper across 40 missions. The helpers move water, blankets, umbrellas and parcels around town by van, truck, boat and helicopter, and the book says plainly it is not emergency training.

This 48-page printable book seats a child, ages 7 to 10, at the control desk of a pretend city support team. Calls come in, and over 40 missions the team decides who goes, which way and with what.
One shift in five stages
The shift runs Receive the Call, Choose the Crew, Plan the Route, Pack the Supplies and Close the Case, with eight missions in each. A message such as “PARK needs WATER at 9:00” turns into a call slip with the place, time or item missing, and later pages pick up the same kinds of problem with new numbers.
The puzzle types that keep coming back:
- call slips and street addresses worked out from clues beside the city blocks
- a five-symbol radio code to translate into words
- landmarks found by row and column on a city map
- one open route to choose around closed squares, written as R and D moves
- a logic grid for which helper sits at which desk
- before-and-after screens with three changed pictures to circle
- clocks in hours and half hours, and visits put in time order
- crate loads marked FIT or TOO MANY, and stock counters where the sent amount is subtracted
Seat counts, vehicle jobs and load limits are printed on each page as rules of this game, so the answer always comes from the page, not from what a real truck can carry.
Making and coloring
Every stage closes with two lighter pages. One asks a child to invent something for the city: a helpful request, a support vehicle, a neighborhood landmark, a supply kit and finally a helper story. The other is a full-page coloring scene of the control room, the support station, the city seen from above, the supply depot and the celebration board.
A pencil is enough for all of it, with crayons optional. The welcome page says no cutting, app or craft assembly is needed, and a grown-up can read the longer messages aloud.
Questions
- Which community helpers are in it?
- A four-person dispatch team. Nia reads the messages, Leo plans the city routes, Mei checks the supplies and Omar drives the support van. Their jobs are deliveries and supplies around an invented city, not police, fire or medical work.
- How do the map puzzles work?
- An address such as R1 C3 means row 1, column 3. Routes are written as R for right and D for down, and squares marked CLOSED can't be entered.
